Technical muzeum

History of scientific inventions and discoveries in one place

On August 17, students of the summer educational programs of the International Union of Youth went on an educational excursion to the National Technical Museum, where a collection of scientific and technical discoveries is collected on three floors in different halls.

The museum was founded back in 1908, and even survived the reconstruction, which lasted from 2003 to 2011, so the collection there has been completed for more than a hundred years. It includes both permanent and seasonal exhibitions of scientific and technical subjects that the Czechs have ever used.

Vehicles are exhibited on the ground floor, starting from retro cars to older locomotives. Students can visit special theme rooms – for example, a room dedicated entirely to the diversity of architectural styles from the second half of the 19th century to the present time. At the exhibition, visitors can learn all about the characteristic features of certain styles: secession, cubism, constructivism and others, as well as get acquainted with the creations of great Czech architects. The atmosphere of the working space of architects of past centuries is recreated in muzeum, as well as samples of lighting devices are also exhibited.

An astronomical collection is situated in a separate room, where students could see a real piece of meteorite that was discovered in Argentina. Its age is approximately five thousand years. An exposition consisting of various astronomical instruments from the 15th to the 20th century, and mechanisms for measuring quantities and navigation, are also available to visit.

Further, students could learn history of the printing industry – from the Gutenberg era to modern electronic devices for the books, magazines and newspapers production. Part of the exposition is equipped as a workshop.

Interesting is also the “Home Appliances” exposition, which displays mechnisms that were once used by our grandmothers and grandfathers from the half of the 19th century to the modern time: here is a technique for maintaining personal hygiene, cleaning, washing and ironing. In the life of MSM students, new interesting events and events take place every day both in the Czech Republic and abroad. Our union pays special attention to not only entertaining, but also educational events – including those that introduce students to the history of the city and country, where they come for summer holidays.
