If foreign students decide to study in the Czech Republic, they have equal chances to get any of type of scholarship offered at particular faculty as their Czech colleagues. Each student receives some financial support (“ubytovací stipendium” or “stipendium na podporu ubytování” ) from the state universities (from 17 to 45 EUR per month) which is enough for some basic needs like refilling public transportation cards or purchasing textbooks. Also, additional grants and bursaries can be provided for international students if they demonstrate good academic performance, service to school and community, and motivation toward educational and career goals.
Types of scholarships:
Award for Academic Achievement
This scholarship is given to a student for particular achievements in scientific research activities. This award emphasizes the quality and coherence of the analysis used in practice. According to statistics, this scholarship is awarded to 10 percent of students and allows them to progress further in continuing to achieve their goals.
High-achieving student scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to students according to their grade point average, class rank, standardized test scores or similar criteria. This award ranges from 300 to 8000 CZK. A student needs to achieve an average score set by the University to get this scholarship.
Target scholarships
Students who work on different research projects or other activities in collaboration with the university and other organizations can apply for this scholarship. This scholarship is based on reimbursement for participation-related expenses in such events as conferences, competitions and training activities outside the Czech Republic. Also, it is very important to know that private universities provide their students with the opportunity to apply for scholarships in the Czech Republic, including tuition waivers and research grant programs.
Motivation scholarships
Students who are recognized for excellent academic achievements, successful participation in academic competitions and scientific projects can get a motivation scholarship. In this case the award amount is up to 30 000 CZK.
