The first step to getting to know Prague from the inside
On July 16, students of the International Union of Youth Summer Programs took a walking tour of Prague in the Old Town, as well as the Charles Bridge. If you also came to Prague for the first time, then you cannot leave without such tour – this is the heart and soul of the city, which you do not fully understand, if you did not visit Old Town Square and the most famous bridge in Prague, which first stone Charles IV laid by himself!
Together with the coordinators, students began exploring the city from the right bank of the Vltava River, on which the main attractions are located. Earlier we were on a boat sightseeing tour, from where a wonderful view of both banks opens, but today we went straight forward to the main beauties of the city and were listening to interesting stories from a guide in order to better understand the specifics of Prague and its history.
To begin with, Prague was once the center of the financial life of the Middle Ages, where merchants from other countries came to the Old Town Square to sell or purchase a product with the most profit. Today, the square has become a sheer aesthetic and a Czech cuisine’s pleasure for the tourist: horse riding and street musicians with special permission from the municipality, and numerous kiosks with fragrant baked goods – trdelniki, boned with sugar and nuts.
Special attention should be paid to the Tyn Church, the Public House, Rudolfinum and the most famous building not only in Prague, but also in the whole world – to Prague Astronomical Clock, the famous clock designed and built in the Middle Ages. In addition to beauty, the mechanism also has practical benefits – they indicate not only time, but many other astrological and calendar details.
After the square, the students followed the guide in order to get to the Charles Bridge, from where a wonderful view of the river opens. If you wish and have some additional time, you can purchase your portrait or a caricature from local artists who are constantly sitting on the bridge, buy souvenirs, or simply make a wish near the famous statues that can be found if you follow the crowds of tourists taking pictures.
MSM hopes that your first acquaintance with Prague turned out to be pleasant experience and we belief that you will continue to explore other beauties and sights of the Czech capital with the same interest!
