Beautiful Old Town: 02.08.2019

Let’s Go to explore Prague!

On August 2, students of the summer programs of the International Union of Youth visited the Old Town and Charles Bridge – the main attractions of Prague, without which, probably, this city would not be the same: not only tourists but also local artists, craftsmen and souvenir sellers gather here. Also this is the right place to feel the real spirit of medieval Europe!

We, people who are used to modern buildings and the daily rush of business districts, began to forget what it is – to visit a place that is completely different from our everyday life. Here you imagine how once kings and queens, simple servants and merchants, and even specially alchemists invited to the city, walked along these streets.

In the Old Town Square, which was once the focus of economic life in Prague, students could admire the Tyn Church, as well as the ancient Astronomical Clock – in Czech “Orloj”, which will make you stop for a moment and stare at the intricacies of mechanisms and medieval ornaments . Experts will tell you that on the clock you can see not only the time and date, but also all sorts of astrological details, as well as the phases of the moon, sunrise and sunset. On the clock, the figures move, – the most shocking of them, of course, the figure of Death in the form of a skeleton, reminiscent of the transience of time.

An interesting fact: Orloj is the oldest astronomical clock in the world, whose mechanism still works today.

And how can you visit the Old Town Square and not visit the famous Charles Bridge, which is crowded with tourists in any weather? This is not surprise, because it is here you can enjoy the wonderful view of the Mala country. One the Charles Bridge thirty statues are placed, two of which fulfill wishes. However, they should be made from the bottom of your heart!

During the walk, students could buy themselves sweet trdelniky in sugar, which are sold in Prague at every turn, and make a lot of unforgettable photos. You can find the MSM photo report below.
