Curator responsibilities

Our advisors are reliable and organised individuals who are always ready to help students solve pressing problems and make their stay in the country as pleasant as possible. We have compiled a list of all the responsibilities of an advisor so that you understand what falls under the language school’s area of responsibility and what issues students will have to resolve on their own.

Arrival of students

Curator responsibilities:

  • Meet a student at the airport
  • Assist a student with moving into the MSM dormitory
  • Provide information about the rules of residence and internal regulations in the hostel, rules for studying language courses
  • Assistance with registration at the Ministry of Internal Affairs upon arrival in the country within 3 working days
  • Accompany them to take a COVID test upon their first entry into the country
  • Accompany to registration at the MSM office
  • Inform the student about the orientation programme schedule for the coming days.
  • Show shops, ATMs, and transport stops closest to the hostel
  • Show the most favourable exchange points
  • Assistance in obtaining an ALIVE student discount card
  • Assist with travel card registration and provide information on transport usage rules
  • Assistance with activating a Czech SIM card and connecting to a mobile operator

The curator’s responsibilities do not include:

  • Assist in changing mobile phone tariffs and installing additional internet access
  • Assist with additional paperwork/courses (driving licence, tutors, etc.)

Training

Curator responsibilities:

  • Distribute the teaching materials specified in the training programme.
  • Accompany to the place of study on the first day of school
  • Add information about student attendance and academic performance to the student’s personal account on the MSM website on a monthly basis.
  • Grant parents access to the student’s personal account (provided that a valid email address is provided).
  • Hold scheduled information meetings for MSM students
  • Check documents for state nostrification, assist with certification and submission for translation, assist with submitting an application to the magistrate, manage the nostrification process
  • Provide information support regarding internal nostrification at the university
  • Notification and accompaniment of students to open days at state universities in Prague
  • Provide career guidance counselling on choosing a university for further admission
  • Provide information support on general rules for admission to universities, assist with submitting applications to higher education institutions
  • Notify the student about the deadlines for submitting applications to universities and the deadlines for submitting documents for nostrification.

The curator’s responsibilities do not include:

  • Keep track of information in the student’s personal university account regarding admission, exam dates at the university to which the student is applying; keep track of emails from the faculty, changes in the format of exams.
  • Submit documents to the educational institution on behalf of the student
  • Provide study materials for preparation for entrance examinations/nostrification
  • Check class attendance daily and notify parents.
  • Accompany students to entrance examinations, enrolment at universities, and nostrification examinations
  • Remind students about deadlines for submitting applications to universities and for nostrification.
  • Monitor the dates of entrance examinations

Accommodation

Curator responsibilities:

  • Monitoring of students at their place of residence provided by MSM
  • Monitor the condition of the student’s accommodation provided by the MSM for damage and impose fines for damage to dormitory property or violations of internal rules.
  • Inform parents in the event that a student receives fines or warnings from the university regarding attendance and academic performance, violations of internal regulations or Czech law, or serious health problems.
  • Accompany the student to the hospital
  • Assistance in resolving insurance claims and help in recovering costs from the insurance company, provided that an insurance policy has been taken out with MSM.
  • Provide information support when opening a bank account
  • Inform and accompany students during cultural events included in the MSM programme
  • Representing the interests of underage students, based on a power of attorney, in cases related to paperwork, visa applications, and urgent life situations.

The curator’s responsibilities do not include:

  • Assist with finding an apartment and negotiating with the landlord/estate agent
  • Assist in receiving personal parcels and letters, liaise with delivery services
  • Be responsible for penalties imposed by mobile communication services, government agencies, places of residence and education, in case of violation of self-isolation in case of quarantine/positive COVID test, etc.
  • Take an interest in students’ personal relationships
  • Looking for work for students
  • Pay for something out of one’s own pocket
  • Ensure that students always have the necessary documents (passport, insurance)
  • Monitor compliance with quarantine measures and Czech legislation
  • Be responsible for the student’s return to the Czech Republic when leaving for personal reasons, trips home, independent travel abroad
  • Assist with purchasing tickets and booking hotels
  • Advise students on travelling abroad and the rules for entering other countries.
  • Representing the student’s interests to the police in the event of violations of Czech law
  • Contact the student outside of working hours, except for matters relating to the student’s health.
  • Respond to student questions immediately, unless they concern health issues. The supervisor has 24 hours to process and respond to other questions.
  • Provide individual counselling to students on topics discussed at scheduled meetings.
  • Signing contracts with banks, landlords, and mobile phone operators on behalf of underage students
  • Monitor the payment process for accommodation
  • Providing and monitoring student nutrition

Visa

Curator responsibilities:

  • Provide information about the necessary documents and conditions for extending a student visa
  • Inform about the process of approval and obtaining a ready visa
  • Assist the student with registering their personal account on the Ministry of Internal Affairs website.
  • Assistance with completing the questionnaire and submitting the application for visa extension
  • Accompany to the Ministry of Internal Affairs office to extend the visa on pre-booked dates

The curator’s responsibilities do not include:

  • Accompany the student to the Ministry of Internal Affairs for visa renewal outside the dates specified by the MSM.
  • Fill out the visa application on behalf of the student, collect documents on behalf of the student
  • Keep track of document submission deadlines in case of incomplete documentation when applying for a visa
  • Track the status of a student visa

Student departure
from place of residence

Curator responsibilities:

  • Inform about the rules for moving out and returning a room in the MSM dormitory at the end of the study programme.
  • Check the condition of the room upon moving out
  • Accept textbooks from students

The curator’s responsibilities do not include:

  • Be responsible for any damage discovered by a technical worker or supervisor at the place of residence during a room inspection, as well as any fines imposed for damage.
